A Point from the Center

Sometime between the closing of the last polling places and the date of the next presidential inauguration (TBD), two developments will obsess the journalistic community.

First, there will be an unprecedented degree of lawsuits and legal wrangling over whose votes counted and whose did not. Coverage and commentary will focus on who will mount the better arguments in court to lay claim to the presidency of the United States - and, more to the point, the power of the office, control over the nation's debit card, and the respect of the world.

Professor Harris holds the Wallis Annenberg Chair in Journalism and Communication and is the founder and director of the Center for the Study of Journalism and Democracy at the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication.

President Sample, Provost Armstrong, Wallis Annenberg, Dean Cowan, distinguished guests, friends and dear family.

It is for me both a privilege and an honor to hold one of the Wallis Annenberg Chairs.
